BMW E39, styled under Joji Nagashima, introduced a broad petrol I6/V8 and diesel range and underwent a major model-year 2001 visual/powertrain update. BMW Archive associates that update with the characteristic light rings later widely known as Angel Eyes.

This is not merely an owner fuel choice. BMW supplied a factory-compatible technical version.

Regular 525tds:

2498 cm³;
143 PS / 105 kW.

The 142/143 PS and 2497/2498 differences are preserved as source-specific homologation/configuration data, not rounded away.
