Краткие сведения
Why M51 needs multiple rows
The 1990s BMW diesel line cannot be represented by one generic “M51 2.5 diesel” row. BMW itself differentiates the higher-output 525tds with charge-air cooling from the lower-output 525td without an intercooler, and the E39 generation receives revised injection/mixture/turbocharger technology.
| State | Displacement | Output | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| E34 525tds | 2498 cm³ | 143 | turbo + intercooler; DDE 2.1 in Touring source |
| E34 525td | 2498 cm³ | 115 | turbo, no intercooler |
| E39 525tds | 2498 cm³ | 143 | revised E39 application / 4600 rpm published |
| E39 525td | 2497 cm³ | 115 | revised injection/mixture/turbo, no intercooler |
| E39 525tds Biodiesel | 2497 cm³ | 142 bhp / 105 kW | RME-compatible seals and hoses |
The Biodiesel row is technical, not a marketing footnote: BMW changed fuel-system materials specifically for RME compatibility.
